The Advantages of Razor Prepaid Cell Phones

Many people, especially students and young people, prefer prepaid plans instead of contracts for a number of reasons, which are, namely:

1)    No obligations
Prepaid plans allow you to hop from one carrier to the next without needing to worry about any contractual obligations. Contracts have the disadvantage that even if you do not use the phone a lot you still have to pay a monthly fee. For people that intend on traveling a lot out of the country or not using their phone that much, a contract makes no sense.

2)    No surprise bills
Prepaid means you have to buy prepaid cards (airtime) as and when you need it, whereas a contract means a bill at the end of the month. This way is similar to running a tab, of course, which means that at the end of the month you could be surprised with a nasty bill that you didn't budget for. Of course, you could make a record of every call you make but the fact of the matter is that, with prepaid, you don't have to do this – you can know how many minutes of airtime you have left and budget accordingly throughout the month.

The Motorola Razor (RAZR) cell phone is very popular as a prepaid cell phone. Since you can pick up the V3 Razor models at second-hand sites or cellular retailers at a much cheaper price than before, it makes sense to get Razor prepaid cell phones as it offers you all of the features you would want in a cell phone (plus, a little more).

Some Razor's are CDMA and some are GSM, meaning they have to work on networks that match the phone type. Prepaid contracts are available on networks that use either technology (but remember, one network can't use both) but this does mean that you wouldn't be able to switch from a GSM carrier to a CDMA carrier on a prepaid plan. You would only be able to switch with GSM carriers. (GSM cell phones also use the SIM card system whereas CDMA cell phones need to be activated by the carrier.)

Razor prepaid cell phones are available in both of these technologies for more or less the same price. You can also pick up unlocked Razor prepaid cell phones at most carriers at the moment. Shopping online, at the carrier's website, at retailers, at auction websites or at second-hand listing websites (like Craigslist.com) is a great idea as you can pick up Razor cell phones at some fantastic prices.

You can get the new Razor cell phones (Razor 2) on prepaid plans at some carriers as well, but you will pay more for the phone upfront than on a contract. However, it's worth it if you have the money, for the reasons stipulated above – no contractual obligations, and the ability to rather pay-as-you go instead of needing to pay at the end of the month with a surprise bill.

If you are not sure about prepaid, check out what each carrier offers. Prepaid is definitely the way to go if you have a tight budget.
